Around Munnar Sightseeing

Eravikulam National Park (13Kms from Munnar)
Apart from tahr, the Park is the abode of other little known fauna such as Nilgiri marten, ruddy mongoose, small clawed otter, dusky striped sqirrel etc.

Mutthupetty lake & Dam (13kms from Munnar)
The lake and dam surrounded by wooden hills and tea plantations, makes a great view. Boating is also allowed on Mattupetty Lake and combined with picnic and trekking, makes for a great outing from Munnar.

Marayoor (40kms from Munnar)
This is the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of sandalwood trees. The Sandalwood factory of the forest department, the caves (muniyaras) with murals and relics from the New Stone Age civilization and the children’s park spread across a hectare of land under the canopy of a single Banyan tree are of great interest to tourists.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (60Kms from Munnar)
Situated in the rain shadow region & good for tourists to spot herds of elephants, spotted deer, sambhar, Hanuman Monkey, gaur and if you are lucky, may be even a tiger, reptiles like vipers, kraits, cobras, pythons, etc. Grizzled Giant Squirrel. An added attraction is the vast sandalwood forest nearby.
