Nagarhole National Park |
Nagarhole National park, a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve also known as 'Rajiv Gandhi National Park', is one of India’s best known wildlife reserves. Nagarhole is one of the remaining habitats of the Asian elephant, which you can see in large herds here. Other animals to be seen are tiger, Nilgiri tahr, Nilgiri langur, bison, leopard etc. |
Kabini |
Lush green landscape surrounding a large picturesque lake, and fantastic sightings of large herds of elephants. This forest reserve is spread over 55 acres of forestland, steep valleys, and water bodies. Once a private hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Mysore, Kabini was a popular shikar hotspot for British Viceroys and Indian royalty. Now it is considered to be one of the best wildlife sanctuaries. |
Rameshwara Temple |
Located on the banks of the Lakshman Tirtha river is religiously important temple of Shiva near Nagarhole. According to Hindu mythology, Rama and Lakshmana passed along the Bhramagiri range while searching for Rama's beloved wife, Sitadevi. When Rama asked Lakshmana to fetch him drinking water, Lakshmana shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri hills and brought into being the river Lakshmana Tirtha. This temple attracts a large number of pilgrims during the festival of Shivaratri. The temple is believed to possess the power to cleanse sins of those who visit this sacred place. |
Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary |
This sanctuary is famous for agricultural fields and coffee plantations. Animals in the Sanctuary include lots of rare species. One can see lion-tailed macaque, Malabar giant squirrel and brown mongoose apart from elephant, tiger, gaur, wild dog, jungle cat, leopard cat, sambar & many more.
