Naina Devi Temple |
The attractive lake of Nainital is said to be the eyes of Sati, wife of Lord Shiva. Sati jumped into the sacrificial bonfire. Lord Shiva to mourn the death of his beloved wife carried the body across the country. The remains of her body fell at various places which today are sacred worship places for the Hindus. |
Naini Lake |
The District of Nainital got its name from this lake believed to be where the left eye of 'Sati' fell; hence, the name 'Naini' was derived. The Naina Devi temple stands beside this lake is supposed to be the exact spot. |
Dorothy’s Seat |
Also known as Tiffin Top. Here a seat was built by an Englishman named Kellet in the memory of his wife, who was killed in an air crash. The spot offers a partial view of Nainital. |
Snow View |
The most easily reachable hill top in Nainital, .It presents a charming view of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks from the Bandar Punch in the west to Api and Nari peaks to the east. To reach Snow View, one can either walk the distance or hire a pony or a horse for the same. |
The Zoo |
Nainital has a small but a very beautiful Zoological garden. There are many animals kept here which includes Deers, Bears, Tigers and many more. The hygiene and cleanness of the zoo is a point which attracts the mind even if one ignores it. Not surprising this zoo is one of the most clean zoos in the country. |
State Obeservatory |
The observatory was established in the year 1955 to perform research in the subjects such as Astrophysics. You need prior permission to access telescopes and the astronomical binoculars to view the celestial objects if the sky is clear. |
Hanuman Garhi |
The temple was built in 1950 by Neem Karoli baba. The temple has a statue of Lord Hanuman who is believed to have opening his chest to show the image of Lord Ram residing in his heart. It is also a great place to view the sunset and sun rise. |
Land’s End |
As the name suggests, one can feel that the area has literally come to an end. It is needless to say then, that the place commands an enthralling view of the peaks that surround it. |
Naina peak or Chaina Preak |
This the highest peak bordering the lake. A popular picnic spot, the peak offers a panoramic view of the resort and a stunning view of the Himalayas including Nanda Devi and the mountains on the Tibetan border. |
St. John Church |
The St.John's Church is one of the oldest building as well as church that was constructed in Nainital. It is located close to the Uttarakhand High Court, and was built in the year 1844 but first opened on April 2, 1848. It is a beautiful church which has an even beautiful interior which is done exquisitely in stained glasses (the windows). |
